GST Compliance Strategies for Exporters: Insights from FIEO’s Technical Session on FY 2025–26 Readiness

We are proud to share that our partner was recently invited by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) to address a high-impact technical session on “Year-End GST Compliances for Exporters and Aligning Internal Systems for FY 2025–26.” Held on 15th May 2025, the session brought together a distinguished audience of exporters, industry stakeholders, and tax professionals, focusing on the evolving challenges in GST compliance for the export sector.

The presentation delved into several key areas of concern for exporters as they close their books for FY 2024–25. It highlighted critical GST audit observations, potential pitfalls in filing GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and GSTR-9/9C, and addressed discrepancies that commonly arise during departmental scrutiny. Exporters were guided on how to align their documentation, reconcile input tax credit (ITC), and ensure timely reflection of zero-rated supplies in returns, which is vital to avoid adverse audit consequences.

A significant segment of the session was devoted to real-life case studies of GST notices issued to exporters. These examples illustrated common errors, such as mismatches in shipping bills and GSTR-1, delays in LUT submissions, and incorrect classification of goods. Participants were walked through the legal responses, documentary evidence strategies, and provisions under CGST and IGST laws that support their defense against such notices.

Another important area of discussion was internal system readiness for FY 2025–26. Exporters were encouraged to digitize their GST processes, establish periodic internal audits, and automate reconciliation routines to reduce errors. Special emphasis was placed on legal safeguards, such as maintaining detailed audit trails, ensuring vendor due diligence, and complying with e-invoicing thresholds, all of which are crucial for maintaining a compliant GST profile.

We sincerely thank Mr. Bimal Bengani, Regional Chairman of FIEO (Eastern Region), and the entire FIEO team for organizing this seminar and fostering dialogue on such a critical topic. At R. Tulsian & Co. LLP, we continue to partner with trade bodies, industry associations, and the business community to provide strategic tax advisory, enhance regulatory preparedness, and enable Indian exporters to confidently navigate the complexities of GST compliance in a fast-evolving regulatory environment.
