GST 2.0 – Anticipated Implementation of New GST Tax Slabs & Sectoral Impact

The GST Council, chaired by Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, is expected to roll out GST 2.0 with a simplified two-slab structure of 5% and 18%. The Council will meet on 3–4 September 2025, with implementation likely from 22nd September 2025.

While the reform aims to simplify compliance and boost demand, it will have significant implications for businesses in terms of inventory management, working capital, contract renegotiation, and anti-profiteering compliance. Refunds of accumulated ITC will not be available where inputs and outputs are the same goods, creating a risk of stranded credit.
